Pasta Bolognese

Allergens: celery, wheat


Ingredients (to serve 10 children)

500g passata

1 tsp salt

1 tsp sugar

1 tsp oregano

625g lean beef mince (or micoprotein for vegetarian option)

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced or chopped

500g wholewheat pasta (contains wheat)

2 carrots, chopped

1 stick of celery, chopped (celery)

1 lettuce, chopped

100g sweetcorn



  1. Turn the slow cooker onto low and add the passata, salt, sugar and oregano
  2. Fry the mince until brown and cooked through
  3. Add the onion and garlic and continue to cook until these are soft, add this to the slow cooker
  4. Cook the ragu in a slow cooker for 4-5 hours on high, you may need some extra water or in a covered dish in the oven at 180℃ for 1 hour.
  5. Cook the pasta according to packet instructions, drain and coat in olive oil which will stop the pasta sticking together
  6. Serve with some salad

Children’s kitchen activities: Cut up the basil using an old, robust coffee mug and a small pair of round tipped scissors. Sprinkle the chopped basil as a garnish to add flavour, colour and interest.  Use the chopped basil instead of parmesan cheese which increases the fat content of the meal.
